Is there more to Easter than Easter eggs?

Easter Is More Than Hopping Bunnies, Easter Eggs, and Hot Cross Buns

Let’s be honest—when most people think of Easter, they picture pastel-colored eggs, chocolate bunnies, and hot cross buns fresh from the oven. And hey, who doesn’t love a good Easter egg hunt or a sweet treat? My favourite is definitely the marshmallow egg.  But Easter is so much more than that.

It’s easy to get swept up in the fun and forget the deeper meaning. But Easter isn’t about candy-filled baskets or cute bunny ears—it’s about an empty tomb. It’s about hope that rises when everything else seems lost.

At the heart of Easter is Jesus—the Son of God, who was crucified, buried, and on the third day, rose again. That’s not just a religious story; it’s the greatest plot twist in history. Death thought it had the final word, but it didn’t. Jesus conquered the grave, and in doing so, He opened the way to life—real, abundant, eternal life.

So while we enjoy the traditions (and there’s nothing wrong with that), let’s not miss the point. Easter is a celebration of victory—of light breaking into darkness, of grace overpowering guilt, of love that refused to stay buried.

This season is an invitation to reflect, to rejoice, and to realign our hearts with what really matters. Because long after the chocolate’s been eaten and the decorations packed away, the hope of Easter remains.

So yes, enjoy the eggs and the buns. But let’s also take time to remember that Easter isn’t just a feel-good holiday—it’s the foundation of our faith, the reason we have hope, and the greatest reminder that love always wins.  May the resurrected Jesus be your daily encounter.
